2.0 out of 5 stars Missing Content, September 22, 2007

This review is from: Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Game of the Year: Prima Official Game Guide (Prima Official Game Guides) (Paperback)
I have a fairly large issue with it this guide. Many places in the guide say to refer to "Chapter 21, World Map" for more details on a specific map marker number. None of the chapters are numbered, so there is no chapter 21. Additionally, but much more importantly, there appears to be no world map (with or without markers and details) in the guide; I have paged through every single page looking for it. Nor are there maps for every major city (none actually). Detailed world and city maps are specifically pointed out on the back cover of the guide as well as in PrimaGames own decription of the guide as being included.
Without this critical content for a game as massive as Oblivion, this guide is all but useless. There is no way I could recommend this guide to anyone.
I also feel that the content of the guide is misrepresented and falsely advertised by both PrimaGames and Amazon's own description.
Additionally, there is no index included. For a nearly 500 page guide,...Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Very useful guide for a GREAT game., October 24, 2008

This review is from: Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Game of the Year: Prima Official Game Guide (Prima Official Game Guides) (Paperback)
Not required to enjoy Oblivion, but very very helpful, especially if you're looking for that item you missed. Well worth the green to get it. Covers all platforms and published add-ons. Second printing (available now) now correctly includes previously omitted maps, etc). Covers available spell/item creation criteria, item/quest locations, monster types and stats, complete quest writeups, screenshots and much more. Single annoying factor (that wasn't fixed with the first edition)remains the lack of proper indexing of quests. General categorizing is nice, but there is no rhyme or reason to the order of the listings, resulting in a lot of spoilers revealed while you're looking for the route that one NPC you need to talk to is travelling. Not a biggie or dealbreaker; just have a degree of patience while perusing this big tome of info.

5.0 out of 5 stars Problems corrected?, February 22, 2008
This review is from: Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Game of the Year: Prima Official Game Guide (Prima Official Game Guides) (Paperback)
Just yesterday I received my copy of this Prima guide from Amazon. I've not had much time to look at it but I did want to mention right away that my copy does indeed have the missing maps that some buyers did not get. When I ordered the book I went ahead and downloaded and printed the missing pages from Prima's website, but this turned out to be unnecessary!

Maybe I got lucky, or else they've corrected the mistake and the newer editions have all the maps.

Can't comment on the content just yet, but the book itself is beautifully illustrated and of high quality.
