Your Guide to the Frontier...,

One word describes this book when I set about labeling it... AWESOME. I decided to grab this up because of how large the game is. I had some issues with Just Cause 2 in finding the very small things to get 100% in some towns/cities so I wanted to avoid that with this game. Picking up the book I was surprised at how thick it was and detailed the graphics were (back cover art, included map, etc). They really did a solid job on constructing this (which doesn't feel at all flimsy like some guides).
When I opened it up I first counted the pages. There's 336 total "real" pages with a foldout map poster included (which could count as 2 more pages as its front and back). I then checked the contents section and loved how they broke it down (note that parenthesis's are page numbers):
Welcome to the Frontier: (4)
- Introduction (4)
- Characters (5)
- Red Dead Basics (10-17)
Main Story Missions: (18-19)
- Act 1 (20)

While the game itself gives you a very good experience of the Wild West, this guide book seeks to complete that experience.
This guide book is really comprehensive. The beautiful illustrations, such as the one on the cover, are just the beginning. Inside, you'll find details to all the missions, side missions, items, weapons, shops, challenges, mini-games, bounty, treasures, trophies and so much more.
All the information is concise and nicely laid out and easy to follow. The screenshots are satisfying huge as you would expect from a 340-page thick guide.
What I like particularly is the section on the game basics/logic, or in other words, the law of the land. It covers the honor system, bounty basics, law and enforcement. It's very helpful to understand the game mechanics at the start, especially on how your honor and fame affects the people around you.
There's also a huge foldout poster map that covers all the...Read more

One of the Best Guides I've Ever Used,

I'm one of those people; I buy game guides for every game I buy. I can't stand wasting time and while I love gaming, to me part of the fun is discovering things on your own, while the other part is to make sure you're not going horribly awry. I'd argue that most games are pretty straightforward, but as Red Dead has won Game of the Year from a few places, I think it goes without saying that there is a lot going on in this game. I've never used a better guide, to be honest, or I can't think of one.
The guide is broken up into the different parts of the game, Act I, Act II, Act II and other activities. There's a great section in the back about ambient challenges and online play. The Trophy section is a little light, and with more and more expansion packs, the guide can't possibly keep up. Thanks to the guide, yesterday, I completed 100% of the game.
In this game, that's not a small feat. While I did that, there are a few things that I found challenging. The...Read more
