As a semi-avid fan of all things Star Trek, I was very excited to hear about the new book series after seeing (and loving) the new movie. This book surpassed my high expectations, and serves as a terrific add-on to the film, expanding on the characters and introducing new elements to their backstories. It is very well-written, and the author's extensive knowledge of Star Trek in general is apparent (and will certainly be appreciated by all Trekkies). Overall, I would recommend this book to all readers, especially fans of the new movie. It is a fantastic new chapter in the Star Trek story, and I can't wait for the next book in the series to come out!

Being the first novel of any kind based in the new alternate Star Trek timeline, I was originally disappointed that it was a "Teen Novel" and not one of the Alan Dean Foster books promised at the time of the 2009 movie. I was still curious, so I gave it a read and was pleasantly surprised. The story is good and the action moves along. There are a few "Say What?!?" moments to hard core Trek fans, but this is a new timeline so I just chalk it up to that and move on (i.e. Delta Quadrant aliens, Ferengi being a known species in 23rd Century, etc). It seems that until there is another movie, these Starfleet Academy books might be our only gateway into the new universe. As for the book itself, I think it is awesome for getting younger fans brought up to speed on these characters instead of being intimidated by the hundreds of TOS novels and comics that are already out there. MUUUCH BETTER than the old "young reader" Star Trek novels from the `90s. Should have a label "Not Just For Kids",...Read more

"Delta Anomaly" is a young adult novel focusing on the world of Star Trek, though specifically, the Trek concentrated on is the new timeline introduced in the 2009 film.
The character focus is on Cadet Kirk, Cadet McCoy, and Cadet Uhuru. Commander Spock is also featured, though in a supporting role as compared to the three main characters. Secondary characters specifically for the book/plot round out the literary cast, and offered a certain "young military officer" energy.
At it's core entertainment value, the plot deals with an inter-stellar serial killer stalking the streets of San Francisco. The secondary plot(s) focus on the three young officers as they continue their studies at the prestigious Starfleet Academy, though this plot angle mainly focuses on Kirk as he completes command requirements for his studies. We get to glimpse both McCoy and Uhuru at work though, and I like this insight into the campus life.
The novel, like the 2009 film, is a...Read more
