Product Description
DOOM is a popular game available for the PC. This guide provides the reader with an inside view of the game. It covers both versions of DOOM and tells the reader how to customize it and build new levels for players. A CD is included with advanced game editing programmes.

I can't imagine how any whackem-shootem-and-mayhem gamer could resist this book! Never mind mere strategy guides--you'll learn how to redesign Doom to make it your very own. Why decapitate a mere demon when you can portray the kid who pushed you around in 7th grade? Replace an evil screech with the annoying laugh of the guy down the hall. Fight in a truly terrifying environment -- your company's accounting department. Build your own environments and weapons. This is way too much fun!

4.0 out of 5 stars An old guide, but still relavent., October 10, 2008

This review is from: The Doom Hacker's Guide (Paperback)
As an avid Doom player, I've always though making mods for it was daunting, but it's attractive in that same regard. I'd fumbled around with coding and minor hacking, but this book taught me to make maps, something I've always wanted to do. There are lots of online tutorials for Doom mapping, but it's easy to learn with this book sitting in your lap.

It doesn't just cover mapping, but that's, for the most part, the only relavent topic in the book. It covers other utilities, like NWT (for adding graphics, sounds, music, etc) and DeHackEd (whose crude hacking has been replaced by easy-to-use code in recent ports of Doom), although this is still interesting to read if you're an avid Doomer. I only recommend this if you're a collector or would rather learn from an easy-to-understand book.
